  • A legacy of learning.
  • A world of possibilities.
  • Community for life.

A foundation for the future

Innovative learning and a vibrant Jewish identity come together in a close-knit community that feels like a family. Students grow, thrive, and build the skills and confidence to take on a complex world with curiosity and purpose.

Kindergarten to Grade 2

In their early years, learning is rooted in warmth, routine, and discovery. Through hands-on exploration, movement, and play, students build foundational academic and social skills while experiencing Jewish life. Through stories, songs, rituals, and shared moments that create safety, meaning, and a sense of home.

Grades 3-5

As students grow, learning becomes more independent and expressive. Through projects, research, presentations, and leadership roles, students apply skills across disciplines while engaging Jewish values like responsibility, care for others, and ethical decision-making, learning to contribute, take initiative, and show up for their community.

Distinctions that make our difference

At the heart of our program are the lessons, connections, and experiences that create lasting memories, shaping who our students become, the values they carry, and the impact they make.

Academic Excellence

Innovation Meets Tradition

Our rigorous and thoughtful curriculum creates a foundation for learning that fosters ambitious thinking and a never-ending desire for discovery.

Social Emotional Learning

Ambition Meets Values

We cultivate kindness and inclusivity, empowering students to grow into compassionate individuals who know they matter and show up for each other.

Community Focused

Purpose Meets Action

We inspire a sense of ethical responsibility and a commitment to making a difference, creating social action opportunities that foster shared purpose through doing good for others.

Jewish Learning

History Meets Exploration

Jewish traditions and modern Hebrew come alive, growing strong Jewish identities and building authentic and enduring relationships with Israel, a home where they belong.

Beyond the Classroom

Leadership Meets Spirit

Dynamic programs in athletics, arts, and leadership build independence, confidence, and teamwork, while helping students joyfully discover their strengths and passions.

A community of shared values

Guided by the enduring values of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, our schools cultivate a vibrant, nurturing community where shared ideals inspire every moment. Together, we shape students who are curious, connected, and compassionate, prepared to lead with purpose and integrity.

Curiosity

Where curiosity fuels discovery

Our programs inspire a lifelong love of learning, encouraging students to ask questions, explore boldly, and embrace wonder.

Sound Takes Shape

Shul of Rock sparks creativity and curiosity through student-driven musical exploration.

Girls with guitars

At Brawerman West, curiosity does not end when the bell rings. During lunchtime, students gather for Shul of Rock, a drop-in music space where exploration leads the way. There is no fixed band and no formal performance goal, just a rotating group of musicians eager to experiment with sound, rhythm, and new ideas.

Students bring instruments they play at school or at home and explore Chanukah songs, rock classics, pop favorites, and unexpected combinations. With guidance from their teacher, music is co-created and arranged for whoever shows up that day. A simple chord progression can spark interest in piano lessons, while trying a new genre can open the door to fresh possibilities. In this joyful, student-driven space, music becomes something to question, adapt, and make their own.

Learning in Motion

After-school science enrichment turns curiosity into hands-on discovery and experimentation.

In Mrs. Fishman’s after-school science enrichment class, learning begins with a question and quickly turns into hands-on discovery. Throughout the year, students dive into a range of investigations that invite experimentation and problem-solving.

In one unit, students designed and built “scribble bots” using electric toothbrushes, pool noodles, markers, and rubber bands, observing how vibration transforms simple materials into spinning works of art. In another, they explored circuits, learning the difference between open and closed systems as they experimented with switches, batteries, and Snap Circuits to power their own creations. When studying geodes, students cracked open real stones to reveal crystals inside, then created their own “egg geodes” using borax and eggshells.

Each project builds understanding through doing, testing, and revising. In this enrichment space, science is not just observed; it is built, explored, and reimagined. Students discover that curiosity grows when ideas are investigated with their own hands and questions lead the way.

Connection

Where connection lasts a lifetime

We nurture relationships that create a sense of belonging, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for your family.

A Season of Togetherness

Thanksgiving rotations fostered connection, teamwork, and giving across grade levels.

During Thanksgiving rotations at Brawerman West, students gathered for a meaningful experience centered on togetherness, learning, and giving. Inspired in part by Brawerman alumni connected to Hope in a Suitcase, the day offered students opportunities to strengthen relationships within the school community while extending care beyond campus.

Working in buddy pairs across grade levels, older students guided younger ones through thoughtfully designed activities—from assembling hygiene kits for foster youth to collaborative, hands-on challenges that encouraged patience and teamwork. Each experience reinforced a simple but powerful idea: connection grows when students learn alongside one another and use their time together to support others.

Gathered in Tradition

Grade 1 students celebrated tradition and togetherness with grandparents and special friends.

During Grade 1 Grandparent & Special Friends Shabbat, students welcomed loved ones to campus for a meaningful experience centered on tradition, learning, and quality time together. The gathering offered guests a window into school life, with opportunities to connect over a Shabbat nosh and moments of Jewish ritual.

Following a grade-level Shabbat service, groups rotated through thoughtfully designed classroom activities. Students shared digital learning portfolios, decorated wooden hamsas, and created Todah (gratitude) books alongside their guests. Each experience reinforced a simple but powerful message: connection grows when home and school come together around learning, values, and community.

Jewish Identity

Where Jewish identity is cultivated

Through meaningful traditions and shared experiences, students celebrate their Jewish heritage with pride and joy.

Hineini: Showing Up for Jewish Identity

Grade 6 students explored identity and responsibility through immersive Jewish learning experiences.

Guided by the Jewish value of Hineini (“Here I am”), Grade 6 students engaged in two immersive journeys that deepened their sense of identity, responsibility, and belonging. Though unable to travel to Israel in person, students participated in a Los Angeles–based experience that explored Jewish history, culture, and spirituality through hands-on learning.

Through sacred texts, ritual, music, and food, students reflected on what it means to show up for their heritage, for memory, and for one another. Students also traveled to the East Coast to explore how Jewish values live in the wider world, engaging with themes of protest, remembrance, resilience, and immigration. Together, these experiences reinforced a shared understanding: Jewish values are not only learned—they are lived, carried forward through reflection, responsibility, and action.

L’Dor V’Dor: From Generation to Generation

Grade 6 students deepened their Jewish identity through remembrance, survivor testimony, and shared tradition.

As part of the Grade 6 Holocaust studies program, students engage in learning rooted in remembrance, testimony, and Jewish responsibility. Through a partnership with the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust, students learn with Holocaust survivors and family members, including Rita, who shared the story of her late husband, bringing history into the room through lived experience.

Students then participated in L’Dough V’Dough, a program inspired by the Jewish value of l’dor v’dor (from generation to generation), during which students and survivors braided and baked challah together. Through shared tradition and meaningful conversation, students listened, asked questions, and formed personal connections. The experience reinforced a powerful Jewish value: remembering is not passive—it is an active commitment to carry these stories forward with care, responsibility, and heart.

Leadership

Where leadership begins with confidence

By cultivating independence, purpose, and responsibility, we empower students to lead with integrity and intentionality.

From Idea to Impact

Student Council students turned ideas into action, raising funds for Leket Israel through student-led initiatives.

Leadership took shape when Student Council students turned an idea into action. What began as a proposal from the Student Council President—to sell snacks at BLAZE games—quickly became a student-run effort grounded in planning, collaboration, and follow-through. Students created a budget, selected inventory, designed advertisements, and volunteered their time to sell snacks to families and visiting schools.

The same leadership carried into a Student Council–sponsored movie night, free for Brawerman West students, where snacks were again sold during a screening of Zootopia. Through thoughtful decision-making and shared responsibility, students raised more than $200, choosing to donate the proceeds to Leket Israel, Israel’s national food bank. The experience showed students that leadership isn’t just about ideas—it’s about taking ownership, working together, and using initiative to make a meaningful difference.

Prepared to Speak Up

The Debate Team empowers Grade 5 and 6 students to build confidence, voice, and leadership through competition and commitment.

The Brawerman West Debate Team offers Grade 5 and 6 students the opportunity to develop confidence, responsibility, and voice through challenge and commitment. Following a tryout process, students commit to meeting twice each week to research current issues, practice mock debates, and refine public speaking skills—learning to prepare thoughtfully, listen respectfully, and advocate clearly.

Leadership is reinforced through accountability and partnership. Students represent their school in three tournaments each year, competing against peers from across the Los Angeles area and earning a third-place finish in 2025. Parents support the program by volunteering as judges, modeling civic responsibility while upholding fairness by never judging their own children. For many students, the experience was transformative, showing them that leadership grows through perseverance, collaboration, and having the courage to speak up.

Compassion

Where compassionate hearts are nurtured

We prioritize empathy and kindness, encouraging students to care deeply, act thoughtfully, and make a meaningful impact on the world.

Honoring Others

On Veterans Day, students practice compassion through service, gratitude, and meaningful connection with veterans.

On Veterans Day, Brawerman West students learn that compassion begins with listening, honoring, and expressing gratitude through action. Across grade levels, students participate in service projects such as creating care kits and writing cards for local veterans organizations—small but meaningful gestures rooted in appreciation and respect.

Students also have the opportunity to hear directly from veterans through age-appropriate conversations that invite thoughtful questions and reflection. Visiting veterans are welcomed onto campus with intention and care, invited to tour the school and share lunch with Student Council students. Through acts of service, shared conversation, and genuine connection, students come to understand compassion as recognizing the humanity and sacrifice of others—and responding with kindness, dignity, and heart.

Cooking with Purpose

During Sukkot, families practiced tikkun olam by preparing and sharing meals for those in need.

In the spirit of Sukkot, every year students and their families come together for a hands-on service experience with Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles. Our volunteers worked side by side to prepare and package meals for Los Angeles residents in need, turning shared time into an act of care.

Through this ongoing partnership, families experienced compassion as something practiced through presence and effort. Caring for others is part of who we are as a community. Through this ongoing partnership, families bring tikkun olam to life, showing that when we come together with intention, compassion, and effort, even small actions can make a meaningful difference.

It all adds up to brighter tomorrows
